Poaching, progressive habitat loss, climate change and increasing human-wildlife conflicts are threatening these highly social animals. "With the action days, we want to give our visitors an understanding of the special features of this second largest land mammal species and at the same time draw attention to the numerous threats," explains Senior Curator Johannes Pfleiderer. The all-day program offers a wide range of activities for young and old. At 10:30 and 13:00, zoo guides will lead interested guests on a 90-minute discovery tour through the Asian adventure world (must be booked online in advance). The commented elephant bathing takes place several times a day and offers insights into the management of the herd and the behavior of the animals.
