Shell and snail expert Frank Borleis leads an excursion along the Zschampert (an eleven-kilometre-long tributary of the Weiße Elster on the western city limits of Leipzig), the Alte and Neue Luppe and the surrounding alluvial forest. On this tour, he introduces the snail species of the region and their way of life. In search of small mussels The approximately three-hour snail and mussel excursion is part of a series on nature conservation topics in the floodplain landscape, which is organized in cooperation between the Office for Urban Greenery and Water and NABU Saxony. Among other things, the course of the Zschampert stream will be examined for water snails. Some of the details could provide surprises, and perhaps the participants will manage to discover a small mussel or two. The excursion covers around 3.1 kilometers along the watercourse and is therefore not barrier-free. Participation in the excursion is free of charge. It is recommended that you bring suitable weatherproof clothing and footwear as well as insect repellent. Time and place: On Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The meeting point will be communicated upon registration. Registration: Registration is requested by September 6 at anmeldung@lebendige-luppe.de or by telephone on 0341 3374150.
