Leipzig's Climate Mayor Heiko Rosenthal commented: "With the new record number of participants, we have once again achieved top figures for climate protection in our city this year. More Leipzig residents than ever before have chosen the bicycle as their means of transport in recent weeks, whether as a team at work, at school or in a club, or as a family, and have saved 562 tons of carbon dioxide in the process." With a well-developed and safe cycling network, bicycle parking spaces and the planned bicycle garage at the main railway station, the city wants to further promote the switch to climate-friendly modes of transport.
Matthias Uhlig, coordinator for city cycling at Ökolöwe - Umweltbund Leipzig e. V., adds: "The results repeatedly confirm that Leipzig is and remains a city that is enthusiastic about cycling. Switching to the bicycle is healthy, climate-friendly and cost-effective. To maintain this, we need more and safer cycle paths."
