The Office for Urban Greenery and Waters asks for your understanding for temporary restrictions that are necessary due to the work, which is expected to last until the end of April 2025. Appropriate detour for pedestrians will be signposted on site in good time. The 15×12 meter rectangular central basin and the four adjoining round basins, each with a diameter of 4.5 meters, will be completely renovated. Both the floors and the water features will be renewed, including a larger central fountain and smaller fountains arranged in a ring. The aim is to make only minimal changes to the existing structure.
The renovation is being carried out carefully and in keeping with the listed building. The site is characterized by the Elster basin, whose banks line the gardens between the Elster weir and the Zeppelin bridge. These measures serve to preserve and carefully restore the culturally and historically valuable site, which is characterized by a high quality of stay and ensures attractive open spaces close to the district. The complex also includes two underground structures, a water reservoir and a technical room to the north of the pools, while an old technical shaft at the same location will be dismantled.
Parallel to the work on the west side, a 170 square meter slab area for multifunctional uses will be created on the east side of the Richard Wagner Grove from November. This will be created on the higher area that was originally intended as the Richard Wagner Grove's "memorial square" and is intended to offer an alternative to the established activities on the west side such as dance, juggling and sport. Several wooden pallet sofas will be temporarily installed until the entire area has been renovated. The construction period for this new area is scheduled to last around five weeks.
